Bruce is a native
of Western North Carolina, having grown up in the Swannanoa
area of Buncombe County. After joining the North Carolina
Highway Patrol in 1980, Bruce was stationed in Macon
County. Although the Patrol kept him busy, his love
of photography continued to shine. He had taken up photography
in his teens and many of his days off were spent capturing
the beauty of these mountains. In 1987, Bruce was
forced into early retirement due to an old injury suffered
while on duty with the Highway Patrol. That gave him
plenty of time to turn his hobby into a real profession.
Photography is now a form of therapy
for Bruce. Chasing the elusive perfect picture helps
take his mind off his disability and other problems
this life brings. Bruce says, “being
able to focus on a graceful Whitetail Deer or a Black
Bear raiding a Wild Cherry tree makes your troubles
seem to disappear.”
Bruce has enjoyed much local notoriety for his awesome
pictures. He has had
|
numerous photos published locally in newspapers and
magazines. You’ll also see lots of bear and other
wildlife on postcards and calendars all over the southeast.
He certainly has a variety of photographic credits to
his name including community league softball and basketball
pictures. Bruce freelances for the Franklin
Press and covers most local sporting events. He
also does wedding photography.
Anyone who has been at one of his weddings
will tell you that not only is he a great photographer,
but he’s a great guy as well. If anyone loves
to have fun, it’s Bruce.
He also believes everyone has been given a talent and
should use that talent to serve God in any way possible.
Therefore, Bruce volunteers his time doing photos for
Evangelist
Scott Dawson. This involves youth conferences all
over the South with several thousand usually in attendance.
It is extremely satisfying to Bruce to know that he’s
serving a higher purpose while doing what he loves. |
